Taking a Hagley pathway to tertiary study

Emma Lumb —

As students all over the country step out from their secondary schooling, we are preparing for those who will be joining us for Catch Up College in January.

For the twelfth year Hagley will be running Catch Up College offering students who have just missed UE or entry criteria for tertiary study the chance to complete standards in a variety of subjects. Catch Up College offers face-to-face teaching with a programme of individualised courses worked out around which subjects and standards have already been completed. Our January Intensive is limited to 6-8 credits. Enrolments open for Catch Up on January 16th when NCEA results are scheduled to be released – please call 379-3090 for an enrolment interview.

We also offer pathways for students who require more than 8 credits, including our partnership programme with the University of Canterbury, the Certificate in University Preparation (CUP). This Level 4 certificate is a full-time, one-semester programme of four courses that offers a non-NCEA pathway to tertiary study. At Hagley we teach the compulsory course in CUP, BRDG006 Academic Communication and Study Skills. For those who want a taster of University study before making a full-time commitment, or who would like to gain skills and confidence to help them succeed at tertiary level, we also offer enrolments in the Academic Communication and Study Skills course on its own.

Enrolments for the full CUP programme are through UC:  http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/get-started/transition/certificate/

Enrolments for the single Academic comminucation and study skills course are through our Hagley Transitions Team – email transitionsteam@hagley.school.nz
