Anything that involves Junior College students at Hagley is epitomised by a tonne of energy, enthusiastic support for friends and classmates, stunning talent and everyone bringing their own unique sense of style and individuality to the occasion.

Last week’s Junior College Prize Giving and Graduation at the Charles Luney Auditorium was no exception. A year of hard work and excellent achievement was celebrated before whānau and friends, with beautifully-dressed students receiving Subject Excellence Awards, Graduating Certificates and Diplomas of Learning.

The audience was also treated to examples of how very talented our Junior ākonga are with Camelia Anderson performing Chopin’s Minute Waltz Op.64 No.1 on piano, and Ella Driffill singing If I Ain’t Got You by Alecia Keys. A further highlight of the evening was a screening of Ash Bol’s film Do You Ever Wish, and the announcement that Ash had just won the Secondary Schools Film Makers Award in ‘The Outlook for Someday’ Young People’s Film Competition with this video essay which uses the power of community to address identity and acceptance.
