Building and Landscape Updates around Hagley College

Andy Gorton —

Some of you will have noticed the building and landscape work happening around the College, led by the intrepid Phil and Grant and ably assisted by Freddy!

Landscape updates

The outside of the Cafe Annex has had all tiles relaid and is ready for some sun shades to be erected and new furniture in the early part of next year. This will lead to a very useful inside/outside space that will allow the users of the Annex to utilise the outside areas whenever needed and for students to have a reinvigorated area to enjoy in their free time.

We also have a great new fence surrounding the basketball courts! This fence is stronger than the last fence and students can use it to sit on to watch the action on the court. It is also quite aesthetically pleasing and fits in nicely with the surrounding gardens and hides very little of the wonderful Hagley main building when viewed from the lawn and the road.

Classroom updates

There are two room layout changes happening over the next few weeks as well. W1 and W3 in the Writers' Block are being made into one large space. This will allow opportunities for a cross-curricular approach for two classes as well as providing a large space to trial different furniture before the College has to purchase large quantities when our new building comes into force. The Art room, A3, is also having some alterations made to it that involves removing a couple of small walls to open part of it up further. This will provide a space for a cross-curricular approach for Brenda and Colin to teach classes together but also keep the space suitable for its main Art use.

X6 is another room that is going through an upgrade. This room will now be used for an Animation course for Years 10, 11, and 12 and as such is being kitted out with powerful computers and furniture suitable for these activities.
