Indoor Bowling

Thi Phan —

On Monday 4 September, 11CEE and 11CEB went indoor bowling with our teachers Margaret, Hilary and Simon

Our Bowling Trip

We left Hagley College at 9am on a bus and went to the Canterbury Indoor Bowls Association premises in Kearneys Road, Wainoni. A group of bowlers met us at the door and they taught us about the bias of the bowls, and how to play the game. We learnt a lot about this interesting game.

For most of us, it was the first time that we had ever played the game. The volunteer coaches were very friendly and patient when they taught us the rules. The two sides of the bowl were different and the swerve of the bowl was tricky.

We did lots of practice, bowling from one end of the mat to the other. Some of our bowls were excellent as we adjusted the length. Sometimes the bowls were quite wayward! As we got better, we began to play games with each other under the watchful eyes of the coaches. We felt relaxed, happy, had lots of fun and enjoyed the new experience. Some of us felt a bit tired after all the exercise.

We loved this sport because it is a game that all of us can learn easily, as it suits all ages. We especially liked the knee cushions, which made it comfortable for us to kneel on the floor.

At the end of our time there, Jawid thanked the coaches on behalf of all the students. The leader responded by telling us that we were the best group they had had there, because we were so focused, so excited and so grateful for their help.

We agreed that we would like to play indoor bowls again and that this was a very good trip. We want to thank Thi for organising this trip, for introducing a new sport to us and for giving us a relaxing and fun-filled 2 hours.
