50th Anniversary Weekend

Charlotte Sowman —

Over the weekend of the 14-16 October, Hagley held a celebration event to mark the 50th Anniversary of Hagley College.

In 1966, the city's two oldest public co-educational schools (Christchurch Technical College and Christchurch West High School) were merged, thus creating Hagley.

To mark the milestone, a weekend of celebrations were in order.

Friday night was an opportunity to reminisce and catch up on the good old days. With light food and drink refreshments, live music (by our very own jazz students) and a guest speaker from each decade, it was a bustling and enjoyable evening.

On Saturday, guests were invited to a lunch and an open day. This was an opportunity to be guided or just walk around the College to see how things have changed and where things are heading. Rooms like the School of Animation and Cuisine wowed the past pupils and staff.

Saturday night was a formal sit down dinner, catered by Marc Alexander and his School of Cuisine students. Guest speakers were past principals Ian Leggat and Brent Ingram as well as current principal, Mike Fowler.

To finish off a busy weekend, guests were also invited to attend a church service at St Andrew's Church at Rangi Ruru on Sunday morning.

Thank you to all of those who attended. It was great to see so many of you still involved with the College.
