Jasmine Lambert

Ros Jackson —

Jasmine Lambert has been teaching English at Hagley for 4 years. Two years ago she started a collaborative course with Regan Stokes called Ngā Miro e Toru.

This course was introduced at Year 9 and was optional for rangatahi to take. There was a lot of interest in the course, and it has been very successful in combining Māori literature and language in English class to normalise tikanga and te reo within the College. Jasmine is Nō Moeraki au and her hapū is Te Rūnanga o Moeraki. Jasmine is keen to see Māori students in particular express the value of being able to recognise and learn more about their culture within their curriculum subjects across the College. Jasmine said, “It has been a pleasure to hear the students of Ngā Miro e Toru use te reo Māori with increasing confidence, both within and without the walls of our classrooms”.

Jasmine was successful in gaining a Bilingual Education Study Award for 2019 and is keen to grow her own knowledge of NZ history, tikanga and te reo so she can integrate te Ao Māori in her teaching.

To keep fit Jasmine is a keen runner and, although she has no outside garden in her present home, she has built an inside garden using pots. This keeps her busy as well as providing fresh vegetables and flowers. Jasmine is also a connoisseur of good coffee and chocolate.

Jasmine loves teaching at Hagley and finds the flexibility and the nature of our students a great reason to remain. Jasmine joined the Well-being Team in 2019 as the Year Advisor of Year 13 and she has enjoyed the challenge of being involved with a large group of ākonga from across the College. Jasmine enjoys working with more mature students and assisting the ākonga in finding and exploring what next after Hagley!

We look forward to watching where Jasmine will take her skills in the future here at Hagley.
