Music News

Nanako Sato —

Term 3 has once again been absolutely packed with musical events.

Upon our return from the Southern Jam Jazz Competition early in Term 3, our music students bonded over a cosy movie night held at school.

After focusing on academic successes for a while, the choir took the stage at the Voices Festival at the YMCA in week 9 and performed stunningly. They received the best arrangement award at the concert. The Groups Night took place at Ara the very next day, and it was good to see all the groups perform on stage. We always appreciate the support of parents and caregivers on such evenings and we were proud of our students performing their best.

Hagley on Show

Our prestigious annual music event, 'Hagley on Show', was once again held at Hornby Hope Presbyterian Church on Wednesday 25th September. This year we had superb additions to our programme: Kapa Haka to open the show, as well as an After 3 Jazz group to perform. The overall concert showcased excellent solo and group performances from our senior students, and Elvis Nicolls's delightful and wonderful performance as MC gave a charming touch to the event. If you have missed this year, we suggest you should definitely try to attend next year. What a splendid way to finish Term 3! Click here for the Facebook post.

Christchurch Big Band Festival

Our Hagley Big Band will be performing at the annual Christchurch Big Band Festival. There are many local big bands, as well as international acts, that will be performing at several venues during Labour weekend.

The Hagley Big Band has been invited to perform at two locations on both Saturday and Sunday. The band's schedule is as follows:

The Music department and our students appreciate your generous support throughout the year, and we are looking forward to seeing you at the festival.
