Nanako Sato —

The Music department has been busy as usual this term, and we are ready for jam-packed musical events this term.

At the end of Term 2, we were invited to perform at a prestigious venue, the Nut Point Centre. This concert featured the school choir, Cabaret group, Chamber group "Two Cellos", Hagley Big Band, and selected soloists: Analise Twemlow, Adam Rapson-Jackson, Austin Jenks, Liya Jose, Ivan Malpaya, Logan Walsh, Francine Parcon, and Frances Parcon. The packed and appreciative audience enjoyed our performances. The venue told us that our performance gets better each year.

Hagley Big Band competed at the annual JazzQuest and received a bronze award. We had lovely comments from the judge and some audience members being vibrant performers on stage—the band looking forward to tackling new materials for the upcoming shows.

As a part of the Performing Arts Showcase, the following music students performed at The Piano on Monday 9th August. Roddy MacPherson (piano and vocal), Liya Jose (vocal), Two Cellos - Alex Bidwell and Paulo Reid (accompanied by Susan Jung), and Austin Jenks (vocal). Austin did an excellent job delivering his MC skills at the show. The show featured works of Dance, Drama, Film, Kapa Haka, and Music.

The Music Department's next public performances are:

Tuesday 7th September - Groups and Singer Songwriters' Night, from 6pm at Ara Music Arts

Tuesday 14th September - Hagley On Show, from 6pm at Ara Music Arts (Live-Streamed)

Labour Weekend 23rd - 26th October - Big Band Festival

Wednesday 3rd November - Cabaret performing at A Rolling Stone
