Learning Communities Newsletter : Term 2 2016

Term 2 has brought a mix of sad and joyous occasions as we have farewelled Mastura Abd Rahman and welcomed Thi Phan to Hagley College. Mastura led the development of the Diversity Support Manager position over the last four years and, with an open spirit of collaboration, has had a critical impact on successful outcomes for migrant and refugee learners and their families.

As we look forward to forging a new and collective path forward, I encourage us all to be inspired by the whakatauki: Mahi Tahi (Working together): He aha te mea nui tea o? He tangata, he tangagta, he tangata. What is the greatest thing? It is people, it is people. For me, this speaks of what we are capable of when we work and act together and aligns with the vision of the draft Otautahi (Christchurch) multi-cultural strategy to achieve “ an inclusive multicultural and multilingual city that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi and values our diversity – a city where all people have a sense of belonging”.
