The last two weeks have seen two key school events take place.

Thursday 22nd November is the day for all new and prospective students to enrol at Hagley for 2019.

Thursday 25 October saw the launching of our new ‘Kete Wana’ – our Basket of Inspiration, with presentations in the Cafe and Library to next year’s Year 9 and 10 students and whānau.

At the beginning of August, three Year 10 students, Rachael Walshe, Georgie Jeffs and Holly Meek, attended the three day Limitless Leadership Conference for Canterbury’s Year 10 students.

What high calibre musicians we have in our school! This year has seen significant successes, with many awards and achievements in various music competitions.

On Thursday, 18th October, the Careers department hosted an informative and productive evening for senior students.

I had the pleasure of chatting with Lochlan during the week. I was impressed by both his drive and his ability to articulate how his art exhibition came about almost by accident!

Term 4 has seen the Dance department leaping from one show to the next! It all started in week one with the Hagley Dance Company performing at the opening blessing of the new “Kahikatea Common” area in the South Bank on Wednesday 17th October.

On Saturday 3rd of November our Year 9 students Sarah Wright, Katie Woodhouse and Mac Durning competed in the Court Theatre's annual Junior Theatresports Competition.

No, don’t fret, we are not introducing a notoriously scratchy uniform staple for our students to wear. Rather, we are celebrating the success of our Level 2 Film Studies students at this year’s ‘School Shorts’ Film Competition.

On 9 November, we planted a sixteenth tree to commemorate the sixteenth decade (2008 to 2018) since the school opened in 1858. A plaque was unveiled too, recognising the sixteenth tree and the fifteen cherry blossom trees planted in 2008 at the 150th celebrations, each representing a decade of education at this school.

This semester our UC@Hagley Academic Communication programme has moved off-site. We have been trialling delivery at the University of Canterbury in an effort to make the learning experience more streamlined for CUP students.

For the last few months, the Library has been running a Reading Bingo, to encourage students to read as much as possible.
