Hail How-To: Photo Downloads

Hailey Bird —

Good imagery makes all the difference to your content, but what if you haven't got the right photo? Discover our favourite free photography sites.

When sharing your content it's much more engaging and more likely to be read if it's dressed up with a great photo, especially on social media.

These days even our phones have cameras with excellent quality and plenty of resolution, but we can't always take the right shot and so often find ourselves needing some stock photography.

Handily in the last few years there's been a lot of new stock photography sites launched with excellent free imagery. These are two of our favourites:

Always be sure to download the largest size pics available — Hail will do all the necessary resizing and optimising on upload.

What about Google Images and Clipart?

Google Images is a huge resource that's used by many schools and businesses to find imagery and clipart for their content, but because it searches across the whole web the images are often low quality and too small for using on today's high-resolution displays.

Also, most of the images found across the web are copyrighted and so are illegal to download and reuse for your own purposes.

For those reasons and because there are now plenty of high-quality, free imagery sites, there's really no reason to turn to Google Images or clipart, which will never be as eye-catching as a great photo.
