End of Term Newsletter - Room 1
WOW! What a crazy busy term we have had.
We started off the term heading over to town to go and see Human. Human was extreme! The people in the show were professional acrobats. They would hang from ropes, ribbons and hoops way up in the high raised ceiling at Stadium Southland. They also hung from each other and trusted that the person wouldn’t let go and drop them.
Not long after Human, we had a visit from Mona, a storyteller. We listened to her for over an hour and no one got bored. She got some of us to hold trinkets that were told about in the story. Betty like the story she told about a couple finding treasure and keeping it a secret from the King.
Cross Country has been a big part of our term. We practised hard and Fionn, Bree and Kate all went to Southlands from our class! Well done you three!
Bevan has been focusing on printing in art this term. We did some printing with our names. We also did some awesome leaf printing and now we are finishing off a Stewart Island scene! Thanks, Bevan. You ROCK!
We were lucky enough to also have Janet come and visit us. She did some puzzle art with us, which was super tricky but really fun! They are on display in the library if you want to check this out.
We had Matt, an Olympic Ambassador come and speak to us about his journey his very first Olympics in 2004, after missing out on the 2000 Olympics in Australia because of an injury that got infected! We got to see his BRONZE medal from the Commonwealth Games. Matt gave us quiz questions along the way.
A lot of very hard work happened while we did our Social Science Fair Projects! We had plenty of interviews to do and a ton of research! It was a lot of fun and very interesting. We all found out heaps of new things about our beautiful Island. Moby got a first and Bree a second place in the South of the Mainland section! Well done guys. All of our projects are now up on display at the Community Centre!
Finally, we have had 4 Bush School sessions this term. We have had a visitor each time and learnt a whole heap of new things. Willy came and worked with us on an app called ‘Find a Pest’ we walked around Bush School and logged all of the weeds we found in the app.
Si came and did some compass and GPS work with us and next term we are planning on doing a race in groups using a compass and GPS ourselves.
Bec, Ryan and Travis came and were judges for Masterchef! We designed our own meals only using 6 ingredients. It was so much fun. Shannan, Roisin and Bella won with their amazing masterpiece! Venison Steak and crispy potatoes on a bed of salad. YUMMO!!
Last Bush School Rosie, the policewoman came to help us investigate a “crime scene”! We had to make a plaster of paris footprint mould, take fingerprints and look for any other clues and bag them up. Luckily the crime was solved and it was Fionn’s DAD who had been hunting and not stealing Moa bones.
Roisin and Volet will be in Switzerland all of term 3! Have an awesome time, we will miss you.
We will be welcoming back Sayla and Archie in term 3.
Thank you, everyone, for the choice term! See you all in term 3!
