We have had a very busy last couple of weeks at Halswell School with the students involved in a large number of activities and events including Life Education, Bully-free week,  Cycle Safety, Years 7&8 Camp to Aoraki Mount Cook, Zone Cross-Country and a performance from El Gregoe the Magician.

Our attention now turns to the school production The Magical Museum which takes place from Thursday 27 June - Tuesday 2 July. An event like this is a massive undertaking for a school our size and the teachers and children will be working very hard over the next few weeks to deliver the best show we can.  Tickets will go on sale the week starting Monday 17 June. Watch this space for more details!

We are still hopeful that our new retractable bleacher system will be installed in time for the production. To help cover some of the costs for the bleachers, the PTA is running a sponsored seat initiative that gives families the opportunity to have a plaque with their family's name inscribed on the back of a new bleacher seat. Order forms were sent home last week in your child's bag. Please follow the instructions on the order form to sponsor a seat or contact the office for more information.

Finally, please note that Halswell School will be closed tomorrow due to the NZEIs industrial action. Choosing to strike is not a decision any of the teachers or I have taken lightly. We have done this because we believe that this is a pivotal time for our country and profession. The recruitment and retention of high-quality teachers and school leaders along with additional support for our at-risk learners are critical factors in ensuring the best possible educational outcomes for our tamariki. You can read more about this in the attached newsletter article.

Thank you for your support and understanding during this challenging time.
