New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults - Books Alive!

As part of the New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults I had the opportunity to submit an event idea for the Books Alive promotion. Usually there would be events around the country to give kids the chance to meet the authors and illustrators who were finalists in the book awards. Due to Covid the organisers decided to change the format and have a series of online events where kids and librarians could talk with an author or illustrator about their book.  I had to submit an idea for an event and I chose to have a special online high-tea with the author of Moonlight the Unicorn's High Tea Hiccup, Sally Sutton.  This event was chosen to be one of the final events, so I got our biggest Miniwings fans together and we interviewed Sally Sutton over Zoom, with our fancy hats and our high tea.

Our event is now available to watch on YouTube, along with lots of other fantastic events to highlight the finalist books.  You can watch our event here.  To watch the other events and virtual storytimes just go to the Books Alive events page.

The winners of the 2020 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults are announced online next Wednesday (12 August).  You can watch the awards ceremony live by going to the Book Awards YouTube channel.
