Stuart Cameron —

Tēnā koutou katoa. Tēnei te mihi atu ki a koutou

There is a real buzz of excitement around the school this week as we prepare for the opening night of our production the Magical Museum. The show itself is a celebration of the focus we have had on the Arts and ACTIVE learning during this term, more specifically, the students have been learning to be a Versatile Player (the V in ACTIVE) through the lens of performing arts.

The production is the culmination of many hours of additional work from the teachers and support staff. We have also had a large number of parents helping out with costumes, props and makeup, making this year's show very much a team effort. Thank you to everyone who has helped out over the last few weeks. I'm sure it will all be worth it on the night!

You will have received information from your child’s T group teacher about what time and where the students need to meet each night and what they need to bring with them. It is really important that we have all of our students taking part in the performances, so if there are any issues with availability, please let your child's T groups teacher know as soon as possible.

Friday night is sold out but there are limited tickets still available for Thursday, Monday and Tuesday's shows and will be on sale from 8.30am tomorrow morning in the Stadium. We look forward to sharing our learning with you over the next few evenings.

Board Elections

I would like to thank all fifteen parents who were nominated for this year's Board elections. It is a brave thing to be willing to put your name forward for such a public role and doing so clearly shows how committed these people are to supporting our school. Congratulations to Jed Robinson, Sean Perrin, Giarne Harrison, Natasha Bucky, Rob Dixon and Francesca Brown who were voted on as the parent reps on the new Board of Trustees and to Anita Head who will be the staff trustee. I am very much looking forward to working with this group during what I’m sure will be an exciting three years.

I would also like to acknowledge the contribution the outgoing Board; Trevor Campbell (Chair), Marcus Clyne, Garry Hancock, Carena Parish, Francesca Brown and Penny Wilson made to Halswell School during their tenure. Collectively they have contributed an enormous amount of their personal time to help govern the school through some reasonably challenging times. Being a Board member is not an easy job and their work often goes on behind the scenes unnoticed but I can assure you that the outgoing Board has played a huge part in the success of the school. I thank them for their service and wish them all the very best for the future.

Finally, as this will be the last newsletter for Term 2, I would like to wish you a safe and relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing you all when school begins again on Monday  22 July.
