Last week we had sports week at Halswell School. There was a variety of sports that gave our students a chance to get involved in physical exercise throughout the week.
Monday - We had kids skipping at both first and second lunch. It was great to see such a variety of children having a go at a new skill or improving their skipping skills. Young and old jumped together over the lunchtimes having fun.
Tuesday - There was a before school circuit in the hall which had a fantastic turn out. Teachers and students played a game of netball against each other, showing their competitive side and that everyone is able to participate in physical exercise.
Wednesday - We had our Year 8 girls lead Jump Jam routines out on the court at second lunch. It was great to see our children jumping around and enjoying exercise in the sun.
Thursday - We had our Year 1-5 students participating in dodgeball. This was a great chance for them to practice their throwing and jumping skills.
Friday - Our Year4-8 students were lucky enough to have some awesome athletes come and speak to our kids. Marianne Delaney - Hoshek (Tactix coach) and Angie Petty (Olympic runner) spoke to the Year 4 and 5 students. Hamish Kerr (NZ High Jumper) and Martin Field - Dodgeson (Mainland Football) speak to our Year 6 to 8 students. They shared their experiences and messages around sport and resilience, it was great learning for our tamariki and their involvement in sport.
