The importance of play

CATHIE ZELAS —

New research into the importance of play for children's mental health and wellbeing.

As a school we value play as an important vehicle for children to learn many valuable life skills such as turn taking, compromising, problem solving, communicating, collaborating and persisting.

A recent publication by American psychologist, Dr Peter Grey, emphasises the importance of free play for developing these types of skills and also links the decline in free play time for many  children today with the rise in anxiety and mental health issues.
