Summer Reading Family Event - Tuesday 3 December
It is nearly time for the children to sign up for Summer Reading for those children who are returning to Halswell School next year and would like a stack of books to enjoy over the break. To launch our Summer Reading programme we are having a special family event next Tuesday (3 December) between 6:30-7:30pm in our library. All Halswell children who come along and sign up for Summer Reading on the night get to choose a book bag as well as some goodies to put in their bag. I'll be talking about the different Summer Reading promotions that are being run by Christchurch City Libraries and Read NZ, I'll share some great picture books and some of my favourite books of the year, and there will be some drinks and nibbles to enjoy while you make a bookmark or reading journal.
This event is suitable for the whole family, including younger siblings, and if you would like to come along please RSVP to zac.mccallum@halswell.school.nz by Tuesday 3 December.
Summer Reading sign up
Any Halswell School student can sign up to Summer Reading if:
- They are returning to Halswell School in 2020
- They don't have any overdue books. Once overdue books have all been returned I'll sign them off.
Children can collect a Summer Reading sign up sheet from the library from next Wednesday. A parent/caregiver needs to sign the sheet to say that they will take responsibility for all books borrowed. Once the signed sheet has been returned to me and all overdue books are returned the children can then choose up to 12 books to take home for the summer holidays. All books are due back by week 3 of Term 1 next year.
If you have any questions please email me.
Students not returning in 2020
If your child is not returning to Halswell School in 2020 all of their library books need to be returned by the end of week 9 (Friday 13 December). If they are not sure which books they have please ask them to come and see me in the library and I can check this for them.
