Tēnā koutou e te Whānau
Welcome back to the new term! I hope you had a safe and relaxing holiday with your children. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the new families who have started at Halswell School Te Kura o Te Tauawa this week. Many of these students will be starting school for the first time in our newest New Entrant class T4. This T group will be taught by Karen Townsend and Rachel Davies.
Term 4 promises to be actioned-packed with a wide range of activities and events taking place including a school-wide focus on science, Years 5-8 Athletics Sports at Ngā Puna Wai, Years 3&4 Cross Country, ICAS exams, Years 0-4 swimming lessons and various excursions around the local community. There will also be a big focus on assessment and reporting of student progress in the second half of the term as teachers begin writing end of year reports.
With so many fun events planned, we should pause to spare a thought for our colleagues and whānau in Auckland and Waikato who have not even been able to start back at school as yet. This continues to be a very challenging time for all concerned and we hope that there will be some light at the end of the tunnel for them in the near future.
Meanwhile, due to the extension of Alert Level 2 throughout the rest of the country, we will still be required to maintain robust health and safety procedures for the foreseeable future. Thank you to everyone for continuing to use both the NZ Covid Tracing QR code and our School App to sign in. We also appreciate the wearing of masks on the school grounds. It is also critical to be vigilant around any symptoms of illness to help keep everyone safe.
We greatly appreciate your support with this. Have a fantastic long weekend.
