Student Librarians at Books Alive

Some of my wonderful Student Librarians had the chance to come to a special event this week called Books Alive, to celebrate the finalists in the New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.  We went to St Margaret's College and heard from 6 of the authors and illustrators whose books are finalists in this year's awards.  Two of the finalist books, Bullseye Bella and Whetu Toa and the Magicians have been favourites of our librarians this year so they were excited to meet the authors, James T. Guthrie and Steph Matuku.  Events like these are a great way for our children to meet the people behind the books and it was great for me to see their excitement about meeting them.  Getting to events like this couldn't happen without our parents who help with transport so this was hugely appreciated.

Teddy Bear Sleepover - Wednesday 21 August

On Wednesday 21 August from 6:30-7:00 in the library we're having a special Teddy Bear Sleepover.  Children can bring one of their teddies (dolls, unicorns and other stuffed animals also count) and their parents to our library for some bedtime stories.  When you go home you can leave your special friend in the library for a sleepover.  Mr McCallum will take special care of them and he'll take some photos of them getting up to mischief in the library.  You can then pick them up the next morning and see what they got up to.

Last day for Scholastic Book Orders

If you wanted to order any books from the latest Scholastic book catalogue (Issue 5) today  is your last day to get your orders in.  All orders will be delivered to your childrens' classrooms in a couple of weeks.
