Thanks for your Book Fair support

A huge thank you to everyone who came and supported our Book Fair last week!  Thanks to your support we raised $1900 to spend on books and resources for our school library.  Our new books will be added to the library over the next few weeks so you'll be able to get your hands on some brand new books to read over the summer holidays.

Summer Reading coming soon

There are only 5 weeks left of the school year which means it will be the summer holidays before we know it.  All children who are returning to Halswell School in 2020 have the chance to borrow books from our library to enjoy over the summer holidays.  From the beginning of December children will be able to come and get a permission slip from the library to be part of our Summer Reading programme.  As long as they have no overdue books children can borrow up to 12 books for the summer.  In the first week of December we will have a special Summer Reading launch party with stories, activities and food, with the children who come along getting a goodie bag.  There are a couple of exciting Summer Reading promotions that I'll tell you about on the night, including the Super Smash Reading Challenge in association with New Zealand Cricket and Read NZ.  More information will follow in the next newsletter.

Best Books of 2019

In the next couple of weeks the children will get a chance to vote for their favourite books of 2019.  There will be voting slips in the library for them to put the title and author of the book and why it was such a great book.  I will then compile them in to a booklet that we'll hand out at the Summer Reading launch.  It will also be available for the children to take a copy from the library.
