Road Safety Week

Anita Head —

Halswell School is getting in involved in Road Safety Week, an initiative coordinated by Brake, the road safety charity, and sponsored by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and Beca.  The official Road Safety Week is 15-21 May, but since our Senior Students will be away on camp, we are going to run a Halswell School Road Safety Week from 22-26 May.

The theme of the week is Road Safety Heroes. Across the country, hundreds of organisations, schools and community groups will be recognising all those who work to make our roads safer and support people following a crash, from emergency services to road workers, school crossing patrols and others.

At Halswell School, our Huritini Student Council members are planning a range of fun activities to celebrate our own Road Safety Heroes and promote road safety around Halswell School.

In conjunction with Road Safety Week, the Christchurch City Council annual School Travel Survey is now live! This 5-10 minute survey will improve understanding of school travel patterns across Christchurch. This will help with improving safety, especially for those using active transport. The survey is open to all school communities (students, parents/caregivers and one staff member per school), until 5pm Wednesday 31 May 2023. There are 10 $50 supermarket vouchers up for grabs.

The survey can be found here.
