Poetry Week 

Last week in the library we celebrated Poetry Week.  We had a poetry competition where the children could write a poem about one of their favourite things and we had heaps of entries (along with all the fabulous poems that the children had been writing in class).  We ended up with a whole wall filled with poems, which was so cool to see.  The winning poems were written by Hayley Cundy and Anton Hawes, with two runners-up prizes for Amelia Barnes and Trent Bowen (who both entered more than two poems!).  Thanks everyone for making Poetry Week so fantastic!

Children's Book Quiz - Wednesday 12 September

On Wednesday 12 September from 6:30-7:30pm I am holding a Children's Book Quiz in the library.  This is your chance to get a team together and test your knowledge of children's books, authors and characters.  This is a family-focused quiz so children are encouraged to be a part of your quiz team.  You can have between 2-5 members of your team.  There will be 5 rounds of ten questions on different aspects of children's books, from classics to picture books, general knowledge and book characters.  The winners will get a pack of children's books and there will be lucky draws of signed books throughout the night (there are even signed copies of books by Jojo Moyes, Lee Child and Chelsea Winter up for grabs for the adults).

Are You Scared Darth Vader?

You may have heard about the awesome new picture book that I read in assembly last week.  It is called Are You Scared Darth Vader? and is a great interactive story about finding out what Darth Vader is scared of.  Zombies? No. Witches? No. Children? YES! 

Library Book Club

We have a library book club on a Wednesday at first lunch.  This is for anyone in Years 4-8 who want to come and talk about books and find some new books to try.  As part of the book club kids can work towards the Halswell Book Bingo badges.  After completing the challenge sheet readers get a badge and a certificate.  If anyone is keen to join just come along to the library at 1st lunch on Wednesday.

Scholastic Book Fair and Book Week is coming next term

In Week 4 of Term 4 we have our Scholastic Book Fair coming back to the library.  This is a great chance to buy books for Christmas presents and support our library at the same time.  As always there will be a fantastic selection of different books and some great bargains.  In the same week we will also have our Book Week.  There will be a Book Character Dress-up Day, a Picture Book World Cup and some special guests sharing books with the children.
