What Now Book Reviews

Some of our best readers were chosen recently to take part in a secret project with the TV show What Now.  Our ten lucky children were given the task of reading and reviewing one of the Storylines Notable Books, some of the best New Zealand books for children chosen by a team of judges.  They were then filmed by What Now presenting their 1 minute book review.  A competition that runs in conjunction with these book reviews was launched on What Now last Sunday.  Children from throughout the country can now go on to the What Now website, watch the reviews and vote for their favourite book.  Every child that votes goes in to the draw to win a copy of their favourite book and a set of the Notable Books for their school library.

Girls Night at the Library

Our Girls Night at the Library is on next Tuesday, 9 April, from 7-8pm in our library.  There are still plenty of spaces left for anyone who would like to come along.  All of the details are on the poster below.  Please RSVP to zac.mccallum@halswell.school.nz by Monday 8 April.

Secondhand Book Sale

On Friday 12 April from 8:30-9:00 we will have a Secondhand Book Sale in the library.  This will be old library books and some good quality donated secondhand books that you can buy.  All books will be 3 for $1, with all proceeds going straight back in to new books for our library.

Scholastic Book Fair

Our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year is being held in week 2 of Term 2, from 6-10 May.  This is your chance to buy brand new books for your family, while also supporting our library.  Every purchase made at the Book Fair, whether it's a pencil or a box set of books, means we get new books for our school library.  There is always a really good selection of books, from colouring and activity books to picture books and nonfiction.

Our Book Fair will be open at these times:

Monday - Thursday     8:30-9:00       1:30-2:00        3:00-3:30      

Friday    8:30-9:00        1:30-2:00  (not open after school)
