School Libraries Transform Campaign

School librarians around the country are getting in behind a new campaign to promote school libraries and school librarians.  You can read more about this campaign in the newsletter this week.

I'd like to ask one thing of you as parents - let me know how our school library, and myself as your school librarian, has helped your child. You can fill out this quick Google form if you would like to respond.  All feedback will be kept anonymous but it will help to give us as a group some evidence of why school libraries are vital.

Scholastic Book Club

Today is the final day to order books from the latest Scholastic Book Club brochure. Thank you to everyone who has purchased something from the brochure. All purchases help us get new books for our school library.

Your next opportunity to purchase books for your children will be from our Scholastic Book Fair in Term 4. This will (hopefully) be in the first week of November.

Book Week in Term 4

From Tuesday 27 October to Friday 30 October, we will be celebrating Book Week throughout the school.  There will be lots of reading and book activities happening in learning centres and in the library, including a Book Character Dress-Up Day on Friday 30 October.  There will be more details to come about Book Week before the end of term but your children may want to start thinking about which book character they would like to come dressed as.

Parenting Library

Did you know that we have a small parenting library as part of our library collection?  This includes books about raising boys, raising girls, helping your child to learn to read, keeping your children safe online, and books about puberty and sexuality.  Our library is open from 8:30am each day so you are welcome to come and borrow a book or just check out what we have.  One of our student librarians can point you in the right direction.

You can check out what books we having using the Parenting List on our catalogue.  While our library is unavailable to most parents at Level 2 you can email me if you want specific books - zac.mccallum@halswell.school.nz
