What is new and exciting in our school library

Girls Night at the Library

We are celebrating our second annual Girls Night at the Library tonight.  This is a chance for girls and their mums/aunties/grannies to come and celebrate books together.  I'm excited to have Barbara Else, the author of the fantastic new book Go Girl, coming to talk about her book and the women she wrote about.  If you want to come but haven't RSVP'd you can still come along.  It is from 7-8pm tonight (Wednesday) in our school library.

We will have a Boys Night at the Library later in the year so boys and dads don't miss out.

In Term 2 we will be having a Family Book Quiz.  This will be a quiz night for older children and their parents all about books.  Start thinking of your team name now.

Second Hand Book Sale

With all the amazing new books that we have coming in to the library we need to make room for them by taking out the books that aren't borrowed any more.  On Thursday and Friday morning in the library from 8:30-9:00 we will be selling these unloved books for 3 for $1.  Come and give them a new home.  You could also buy a copy of the new short Treehouse story from Andy Griffiths for just $1.

Scholastic Book Fair

Our next Scholastic Book Fair is going to be run in week three of Term 2.  As always there will be a great selection of all sorts of books, from colouring and crafty books to picture books and your favourite series.  This is held in the library and is open before school, at 2nd lunch and after school.  More details will follow at the beginning of Term 2.

If you are interested in helping with the Book Fair, either before school or after school, please let me know.  We always have lots of keen student helpers but it is good to have a couple of adults who can help them when needed.  If you are interested please email me - zac.mccallum@halswell.school.nz.
