Summer Reading

Any children who are returning to Halswell School next year can now sign up for Summer Reading.  This is the chance for children to take up to 12 books home for the summer holidays.  All they need to do is get the permission slip signed and return this to me in the library by Wednesday 12 December.  Children who have signed up can start choosing their books from next Monday (10 December).  Please make sure children bring a large bag to take all of their books home.

You are welcome to come in to the library between 8:30-9:00 each day to help your children choose their books.  The library will also be open on Wednesday 12 December from 6:00-7:00pm for you to come and choose books together.  If you would also like to be taking books for younger siblings please email me (zac.mccallum@halswell.school.nz) and I can set up a family account for you.

Christchurch City Libraries also has a fantastic Summer Reading promotion that your children can take part in.  They can pick up a Summer Reading postcard from our library or their local public library and complete the challenges for the chance to win some cool prizes.

Returning all library books

If your children are not signing up for Summer Reading or are not returning to Halswell School next year please ensure that all library books are returned to the library by the end of next week. Any outstanding overdue books at the beginning of next year will be charged for (unless these were part of your child's Summer Reading).

Book donations from school leavers

It is a tradition that our Year 8 leavers donate a book to our school library.  These will be presented to the library at senior prizegiving.  If you are still not sure what book to donate please ask me as there are always exciting new books that we would love to have in the library.  Any other children who are leaving our school this year (who are not in Year 8) that would like to donate a book to our library are also welcome to.

I just want to say a huge thank you to anyone who has supported our library this year, whether it be through making a purchase at our book fairs or book sales, helping in the library or coming along to one of our family events.  You help to make our library the awesome place that it is and show your children that you value books and reading.  I'm looking forward to another great year in 2019!
