On Wednesday 13th of February, all students from Year 5-8 were involved in our Halswell School Swimming Sports which were held at Jellie Park and Halswell Pool. It was a fantastic day which saw lots of great swimmers participating. Below are the results from Jellie Park competitive swimming sports and two recounts of the day from our Sports Leaders, Keira and Cam.
Jellie Park Recount - By Keira Rooney
Everyone who participated in the Jelly Park Competitive Swimming Sports did incredibly well. All the races were amazingly fast and super close. The students all thoroughly enjoyed it and had a great day out, whether they had come first, third, or last it was an awesome opportunity to have. Many of the races were extremely intense, especially at the start. As soon as Mr Naysmith clapped the clappers the kids were off! The butterflies in their stomachs disappearing as soon as they hit the water.
Everything ran smoothly for the house relay. It was cool to see the audience chanting names of the house groups, making it very competitive between the houses. The students should be very proud of themselves for what they achieved and can go home feeling confident about next year. Well done to everyone who took part! Thank you to all the teachers who helped to make the day a success. Also a big thank you to the parents that gave up their time to be timekeepers on the day, we really appreciate it.
Halswell Pool - By Cameron Gilmore
On Wednesday the swimmers who didn’t want to compete in competitive swimming sports went to Halswell Pool to become more confident in the water. They did widths of freestyle and backstroke where everyone did amazingly well and gave it a go, well done! Everyone held hands and run in a big circle in the water to make a whirlpool effect in the water. At the end everyone got free time in the water. It was a great day out.
A big thank you Jono for running the event on Wednesday and the student helpers, teachers and the lifeguards for helping out.
