Orienteering Festival

PAPO —

"During August and September the Schools Orienteering Festival and training events are happening around Christchurch. This is the best time for students to try orienteering.

There are a few children who already compete in orienteering at Halswell School, but we would like to see more participate.

If you or your children are interested in trying orienteering then please contact Clare on 021 0226 1875 for any questions and to help you started.

A little more about orienteering.

Orienteering is a fun navigational challenge which combines physical exercise with the mental challenge of map reading (without a GPS). It is builds great foundational skills for adventure racing, back country tramping and rogaining.

At events there are courses for all levels and abilities starting from white courses which follow paths and roads, all way up to red courses where controls are located in the middle of the forest.

All ages of children enjoy orienteering courses and punching the electronic controls and courses can be completed either individually or in a group. "
