Walliams Week

Last week we celebrated Walliams Week in the library.  This year is the 10th anniversary of David Walliams' first book, The Boy in the Dress, so his publishers created a special week to celebrate his books.  We had a vote to find out our favourite David Walliams book at Halswell School, and we discovered that it is The Midnight Gang.  We also had some word searches and a quiz that the kids did throughout the week.  If you missed out on a World's Worst Children 3 bookmark and stickers I still have a few in the library so just come and ask me for one.

Pocket Money Book Sale

Thanks to everyone who supported our Pocket Money Book Sale this week.  From my point of view it has been a fantastic sale with some great cheap books and novelty bits and bobs for the kids.  If you have any comments about the book sale please flick me an email (zac.mccallum@halswell.school.nz) as I'd love to know what you thought.  This is the first time that we have run this book sale (through the wonderful Mark and Nadine Adams from More Than Books) so please give me any feedback, whether positive or negative.  We will still run our Scholastic Book Fair again in Term 4 and the Scholastic Book Order catalogues will be coming out to your children in Term 3.

Keep reading and earn free pizzas

The winter holidays are a great time to snuggle up with a great book (I know I will be).  If your children read-up-a-storm these holidays make sure to fill in their Hells Pizza Reading Wheel.  Kids only need to read 7 books to earn a free small pizza from Hells Pizza.  Grab a pizza wheel from our library or your local public library and sign a segment of the wheel for each book read.
