Learning Team Organisation 2018

Bruce Topham —

The school year is fast coming to a close. We are currently in the process of organising the school for next year.

The number of children we predict for our 2018 school roll, including new entrants, dictates how we organise the school. We have received over 100 five year old children in each of the last two years and are predicting a similar number next year. We have therefore needed to modify our structure to cater for this next year.

Ahuriri: New Entrants

Huritini: Years 1 and 2

Orongomai: Years 2 and 3

Otawhito: Years 4 and 5

Otumatua: Years 6, 7 and 8

The teachers teaching in each learning centre are not confirmed at this stage, but we will be welcoming seven newly appointed teachers to the school in 2018. Our new teachers will be covering four people on leave, one for roll growth, one replacing Kate Bodger who moved to Wanaka mid year and one for our long term staff-member Karen Townsend who is a retiring from full time classroom teaching. Luckily for us Karen will still be around the school relieving next year. Once we confirm teacher placement we will notify you.

Our staff spend a lot of time and effort when organising student placements. T Group placement is no longer as crucial as it was in single cell classrooms as the teachers are working in teams. The pivotal role of the T group teacher is pastoral care and a vital communication link with you. However, if you have important new information you wish to provide, please use the T Group placement Form found here. You may also wish to indicate any relationship issues with other children that we should take into account. Please do not request specific teachers.

Please refrain from approaching teachers with any placement related queries or issues. If you do need to speak to someone in person please make an appointment through the office to see either Cathie or Rob.

Respectfully,

Bruce Topham
