Sand in my Toes, Salt in my Nose

Children's picture book.

The idea for this book came to me last summer after we spent a week out at the bach on Banks Peninsula, my children Quin from Orongomai and Stellar from Huritini were my inspiration. We are so lucky in New Zealand with so many amazing outdoor places to explore, I wanted to capture the feelings that come with these adventure's.

This book also came from being brave, writing with rhyme and rhythm scared me a lot. I decided that the risk was worth it as what I could gain was far more. I also re-wrote it many times and even changed some of the words after the pictures were painted, I used to work as an Outdoor Instructor with the talented artist and it has been a real learning collaboration. Urupikia has done an amazing job of translating it into Te Reo, it was important to me that it was in both languages as this is now the norm in our country and I wanted this to be the norm for our children. Cam my husband has indulged my crazy idea of a set of 16 Greenstone from the same stone linked to the meaning of each page, he has worked tirelessly and is very talented. Ahuriri, Huritini and Orongomai Children and Teachers & Staff, thank you so much for all your support and inviting me in to read my book to you, it has been cool to involve you in the process.Get outdoors, be brave, ask lots of questions and always look for ways to improve what you do and most of all have fun while doing it.

Roz

My website is up and running for pre-orders of the books, there is an English and Te Reo version. https://rosalindpotter.com
