Using and Understanding Hero

CATHIE ZELAS —

Using Hero

We understand that some of you have experienced issues receiving school notices since our change to Hero. Apologies if this was you. We hope the information below clarifies how notices from the school will be received through Hero.

Hero has been designed to be used primarily as an app where all of the school notices and information about your child can be accessed. It is important to note that you only receive an email when not logged into the Hero app.The email is simply a backup to alert you to the fact that there is a notice waiting to be read. Therefore we strongly encourage all parents to download the Hero app to your phone, stay logged in, and ensure that your notifications are turned on in your phone settings to ensure that you are receiving new notices from the school.

In summary:

  • When we send out a school notice you will receive only one notification either an Hero app notification or an email notification.

  • If you are logged into the Hero app on your phone and have enabled notifications you will receive the notice this way. You will not receive an email notification as well.

  • If you are logged out of the app, or have not downloaded it, you will receive an email notification.

To ensure that you stay up to date, look out for the red bell at the top right hand corner within the Hero app which alerts you to a new notice or post.

Please contact Heather Burnby in the school office if you need any more help getting Hero set up.

Changes to Hero reading, writing and maths pages

We've taken account of your feedback in last year's reporting survey and simplified the way we show your child's progress and achievement. Many of you told us that you didin't understand the curriculum levels so we've removed these from Hero. Going forward all children will receive a statement and updated graph, mid and end of year, showing whether they are working towards, working at, or working beyond the expectation for their current year level. These changes mean that you currently won't be able to see your child's graph. They will be visable again when the end of year report is published.

Hero parent information sessions

We have some face to face sessions planned for mid Term 4 to help you understand your child's report in Hero. Look out for more details of dates and times next term.
