Welcome back to Term II.

Are your children safe when online?

Next Thursday and Friday our South West Cluster of Schools is hosting John Parson to work with Year 3 to 8 children, which has been supported by our Life Education programme we have run over these first two weeks. Cybersafety is the safe and responsible use of information and communication technology. It is about keeping information safe and secure, but also about being responsible with that information, being respectful of other people online, and using good ‘netiquette’ (internet etiquette).

Understanding cyber safety is all the more important when working with, or caring for, young children as they cannot make their own decisions about what gets published online.

Your children’s teachers have sat in on the Life Ed lessons and listened to your children’s responses. They are concerned that a number of responses would indicate unsafe practices in the home.

“Cyber-bullying is poised to turn into the biggest online concern, already affecting up to 35% of all children.”

Please click on the link, read and consider becoming a fully informed Cyber Safety home.

While school will close at 1:30pm non teaching staff and I will remain onsite. Any children who are unable to be collected at 1:30pm will need to be registered and will then be catered for.

More information and how to register closer to the date.

Working Bee - weather permitting - 20th May @ 10 am

A Working Bee is planned for next Sunday, to plant the bank above the New Entrant Amphitheatre, weed the bund on Halswell Road and complete some other soft landscaping tasks. If wet we will postpone until the first fine Sunday. We will confirm the other tasks next week.

A great chance to give a little time to your children’s school and meet with other parents, many of whom are new to Halswell.

Regards

Bruce.
