Girl's Night at the Library 2018

You may remember the fantastic Girl's Night at the Library that we had last year.  We're doing it again!  It's going to be on Wednesday 11 April from 7-8pm.  This year we have NZ author Barbara Else coming to talk to us about her new book, Go Girl, which is packed with stories about amazing New Zealand women and girls.  If you loved Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls you will love Go Girl.  Keep this date in your diary.  There will be more details soon.

Upcoming Library Events

This week in the library we are celebrating Sea Week, with lots of books about the sea, oceans and the animals that call it home.  There are questions to answer for chocolate fish and a cool writing competition to enter.  Thanks to Mrs Hurst for organising these!

On Thursday we will also be celebrating International Women's Day.  I'll be sharing some of the amazing stories from Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls and there is an exciting quiz about some of these amazing girls and women.  Everyone who gets all the answers correct goes in the draw to win a copy of the brand new Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 2!

Next week on Tuesday at 2pm we have two fantastic New Zealand authors coming to visit us.  James Russell (author of the Dragon Brothers series) and Anne Kayes (author of The Tui Street Tales) are coming to talk about their books and writing.  This is aimed at Years 4-6 so if your child is interested in coming to this author talk make sure they let their teacher know.

On Wednesday 14 March the Storylines Story Tour is holding an event for parents, teachers and librarians in our school library from 7-8pm.  New Zealand authors James Russell, Anne Kayes, James Norcliffe and Maria Gill will be talking about how to encourage children to be more engaged readers.  If you are interested in coming along to this please RSVP to me at zac.mccallum@halswell.school.nz.

Awesome new books

We always have awesome new books coming in to our library.  Some of our most anticipated new books are Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 2, Jojo's Guide to the Sweet Life and the finale to the Beetle Boy series, Battle of the Beetles (one of my all time favourite series).

Library Book Club

Our library book club has now started for the year. Children in Year 4-8 can come along to the library at first lunch on Wednesday and chat about books with other children. It is an informal group with us talking about all sorts of books instead of reading the same book. I lead the group and share some of my book suggestions. To join up children just need to come along with a book they're reading and their lunch on Wednesday at 12pm.
