Past Pupils on the Podium!

Lisa Dovey —

Three ex Halswell boys made it to the podium for their respective age groups in the NZ National Scootering Competition.

The New Zealand National Scooter Competition was held on 18 January this year and three of our lovely ex students made it on to the podium!   All three will now be going to Australia at the start of Term 2 to represent New Zealand at the Australasian finals where they will compete to try and gain entry into the World Finals to be held in London in July.

They all trained especially hard and given that there are no adult coaches for the sport in New Zealand and the boys are all self taught, it is quite an achievement!!

Whilst at Halswell School they were keen users of our old ramps, and took great advantage of Winter Friday sport in Ōtūmatua (where the children have the opportunity to organise their own sports coaching) to go to Xten for some extra practise under the advisement of the staff there.

Kyle Flint, who graduated from Halswell in 2017, competed in the 15 and under boys and placed 2nd; Leo Collins, who graduated from Halswell in 2018, competed in the 14 and under boys and also placed 2nd; Riley Reid, who graduated from Halswell last year, competed in the 13 and under age group and placed first.

A huge congratulations to these three boys!  It's wonderful to hear about the achievements of our past pupils!
