Find out what is happening in our library

Thanks for your Book Fair support!

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Scholastic Book Fair.  We raised $1300 for our school library, which has meant lots of fantastic new books are now available for your children to borrow.  There are so many great new books that are released in the lead up to Christmas and our Book Fair funds have meant that we were able to buy lots of these.  If your child wants to get their hands on the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book or the latest David Walliams book, or they want to discover a brand new author come and see our wonderful Student Librarians in the library.

Halswell Best Books of 2018

Over the next couple of weeks I will be putting together a special booklet that will feature the Best Books of 2018, as voted by Halswell kids and staff.  If your children would like to have their say they just need to grab a form from the library and fill it out with the title, author and 3 or 4 sentences about the book and why they like it.  When I've compiled all the best books I will send it out as a special newsletter towards the end of term.

Hells Pizza Reading Wheels

There is now only a couple of weeks left to redeem the Hells Pizza Reading Wheels.  If your child has a completed pizza wheel at home, or they have nearly completed one, they have until 3 December to take it to any Hells Pizza restaurant to redeem it for a free small pizza.  There will be more chances for free pizza again next year as we will be participating in this promotion again in 2019.

Summer Reading at Halswell

All students who are returning to Halswell in 2019 have the chance to participate in our Summer Reading programme.  This gives them the chance to take up to 12 books home from our library for the summer holidays.  To sign up students just need to collect a permission slip from the library, get it signed by a parent or caregiver and return it to the library before Monday 10 December.  Students will then be able to choose their books in the last 2 weeks of school and there will be a chance for parents to come to the library one night to choose books with their children.

If you would like your children to take part please collect a form next week from the issues desk in the library.  If you have any questions please email me - zac.mccallum@halswell.school.nz.
