NEW - Halswell School - Band Programme 2020

Rob Naysmith —

We are super excited to bring this amazing band programme, run by Christchurch School of Music (CSM), to Halswell. This band is designed for children in Years 5-8. To make it fantastic we need lots of new players, please read on.

The Christchurch School of Music School Band Programme provides an enjoyable and rewarding musical experience that can provide children with skills that will last a lifetime. In addition to the obvious musical benefits, children who play an instrument in a band benefit socially, physically and academically. Children learn valuable team skills, and above all have fun!

In 2020 Halswell School will begin with a training band where students who are beginners on their instruments come together in the band on the very first day. Band is followed by a group lesson with a skilled tutor.

When the students have reached a certain stage in the programme, generally in the second year of learning, they will be able to join the School Concert Band. As they progress there is an opportunity to take part in the Friday Youth Band, a combined band from all the schools or join one of the programme’s jazz bands.

Instruments in Our Bands - Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Guitar, Percussion

Any parent who would like to join the training band and learn an instrument from scratch is always welcome.

Fees for the programme are $157.50 per term or $630 per year which covers a weekly group lesson and the band for 32 weeks of the year. Fees can be paid weekly, fortnightly, by term, by semester or annually. Financial assistance may be available to families with a Community Service card (dependent on amount received from our funders). CSM can also organise instrument hire at very reasonable rates.

If you are wanting to sign up for this fabulous programme please tick Band in the google form for instrument sign up and collect a form from the office or print out the PDF version below and return to the office so CSM will know which instrument you are wanting to learn as part of being in the band.

Further info can be collected from the office in the form of a brochure and enrolment form, contacting Rob Naysmith or phoning CSM’s Music Director, Celia Stewart on 03-366-1711
