Adoption of Bilingual name

School Board —

Kia ora koutou

Thank you to the parents who completed last term's survey seeking feedback on the proposal to formally adopt Te Kura o te Tauawa Halswell School as our official school name. We had a total of 58 respondents. Seventy per cent of respondents had no objections to the name being formally adopted. As a result of this, and along with the strong feedback we received during last year's community consultation process about wanting to see more emphasis on celebrating biculturalism with our logos and imagery, the Board requested that the MoE change the name.

This process has taken quite some time, but we have now received notification from the Ministry that the request has been approved.

What does this mean moving forward?

Not a lot will change from how we currently operate. We have been using Te Kura o te Tauawa Halswell School informally for several years. It is already integrated into our logo, branding and school signs. The main change will be that any official documents that go out about the school e.g., ERO reports and MoE publications, will be required to use the full school name.

Te Kura o te Tauawa is an important part of our cultural narrative, and we will continue to work with our students to help grow their understanding of its significance to our school's identity.

Thank you for your support.
