Stuart Cameron —

Tēnā koutou katoa, tenei te mihi atu kia koutou

I hope, like me,  you are enjoying the new freedoms that have been afforded to us at Alert Level 1! It was a fantastic feeling to be able to open the gates again for all parents and visitors on Tuesday morning.

As stated in Monday night’s email, parents no longer need to use the school app to register visits to school but please note that we still require anyone who wishes to come onto the grounds between 9 am-3 pm to sign-in at the office using the Vistab tablet at Reception.

We are also supporting the Government’s COVID-19 tracking app and have placed QR codes at the various school entrances. You are welcome to use these if you are tracking your movements via the app.

Although many of the restrictions at the higher Alert Levels have been removed, it is still very important that sick children remain at home. Regardless of COVID-19, we are entering our peak season for colds and flu. Keeping sick children at home will play a very significant role in keeping our whole school community healthy over the coming months. If your child(ren) is showing any cold or flu-like symptoms at all, please keep them at home until they have fully recovered. We will be requesting that parents collect children from school if they are showing any signs of illness.

To help stop the spread of germs, we will continue to maintain most of our now well-established handwashing routines over the next few months. We will be reducing the amount of hand sanitizer being used as this can aggravate the skin over prolonged periods but feel free to send your child(ren) along with a small bottle of sanitizer if you want them to continue to use it.

We are delighted to be able to recommence our full school assemblies at Alert level 1. The next full school assembly will take place at 9.15 am on Friday 19 June in the Stadium. All parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.

We are also working on getting our sports programme back on track as soon as possible with the first event being the school cross country. This will take place in the last week of term. More information will follow shortly.

Finally, as this is national 'Celebrating Support Staff in Schools' week, I wanted to finish with a special shout out to all of our wonderful support staff. Our office team, caretakers, librarian and teacher aides contribute a huge amount to the success of our school. We feel extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented team supporting our teachers and students.

Ngā mihi nui
