Harry Potter Week

Tuesday 31 July is J.K. Rowling's birthday so we've been celebrating Harry Potter in the library this week.  We've been making bookmarks, cookie cutter sorting hats, mini Harry Potter books and there is a quiz that you can enter.  The winner of the quiz gets to choose a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in the Hogwarts House colour of their choice.

Family Book Quiz

Towards the end of term I will be holding a Family Book Quiz in the library.  This is the chance to get your family together to test your knowledge of children's books.  I'll put the call out soon for you to enter your team.

Scholastic Book Orders

Your child should have received a Scholastic Book Order form (if not we have a few spares in the library or you can view it online at www.scholastic.co.nz).  Orders are due by 8 August and you can pay online or with cash (dropped in to the school office).  All orders help us to get new books for the library.  There are some very exciting new Scholastic books coming soon, like the new Dog Man and a new Pig the Pug book, so we can't wait to get these in the library.

Parent Help in the Library

There are always plenty of jobs to do in the library to keep things running smoothly and our library looking great.  Things like covering books, making things for displays, checking picture books and withdrawing books are all tasks that you could help with.  If you have an hour free every now and again I would love some parent help in the library.  You can choose a time that suits you and you wouldn't need to come every week.  If you are interested or would like more information please email me (zac.mccallum@halswell.school.nz) or come and have a chat before school on a Monday or Friday.
