🏴 Junior Gillette and Seddon Cup Success 🏏 πŸ†

Zac Corban —

In the heart of competitive cricket, the Colts Cricket Team showcased its remarkable prowess at the Junior Gillette Nationals and the Seddon Cup. Comprising four Hostel boys, Jai Poonia, Jonah Funnell, Daniel MacDonald, and Samuel James, the team cemented its spot as one of the best teams in Aotearoa. Sadly, Samuel James could not attend the tournament due to a training incident, but he was a vital member of both sides.

At the Junior Gillette Nationals, the Colts Cricket Team demonstrated an unwavering spirit, culminating in a commendable second-place finish. Despite facing formidable opponents, their sole loss by a mere wicket to Wellington College showcased their resilience. Jai Poonia's consistent batting performance, averaging 33 runs across the week, bolstered the team's score, while Jonah Funnell's exceptional bowling took crucial wickets and maintained an impressively low economy rate. However, it was Daniel MacDonald who shone with his selfless contributions, earning him the prestigious team MVP award. MacDonald's unwavering commitment and exceptional leadership were instrumental in fostering a strong sense of unity and camaraderie within the team, guiding them through the highs and lows of the tournament.

Buoyed by their success at the Nationals, the team went on to clinch the Seddon Cup,cementing their status as the best Under 15 cricket side in the Central North Island. In the final, Jonah Funnell's stellar bowling performance, claiming five wickets for 47 runs, was the epitome of excellence and determination. We congratulate these four boys on their commitment to cricket over the last two terms. All of them gave up the majority of their summer holidays to train and play for the school. The future looks bright for all four boys, who are looking to cement their spots in the school’s 1st and 2nd XI sides next season.
