🏖 Level 3 and Year 11 Cambridge Geography Field Trip 2023 🌏

Andy Thomson —

Our final field trip of the 2023 school year took place in May as our Year 13 NCEA and Year 11 IGCSE students made their way to Waihi Beach. Accompanying the students were Mrs Shephard, Mr Thomson, Miss Simmons and Mr Corban.

This trip is essential for our Year 13 students for their 3.5 Research Internal and for the second year in a row our Cambridge class accompanied them to expand their knowledge of the data collection process and also develop their understanding of the coastal environment.

It was an early start for our students due to the need to arrive at the beach during low tide. We were also concerned about the state of the beach as it was shortly after Cyclone Gabrielle. However, we were incredibly lucky and the day turned out to be incredibly successful as the students collected data in three different locations along the beach. At each location, data was collected for the beach profile, type of sediment and longshore drift.

Mrs Shephard is in her element as she leads the students through an exceptionally insightful field trip that expands the students' knowledge of a natural environment in which we spend a significant amount of time in New Zealand.
