🎼 Tritones Headed for National Chamber Music Competition Northern Regional Finals

Andrew Gibbs —

On Wednesday the 9th of June, two HBHS piano trios performed and competed at the Waikato District Round of the National Chamber Music Competition held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato.

Our musicians have achieved some outstanding results this week, and several of these were at the recent Regional Chamber Music Competition.  Out of the 20 entries from across the Waikato, our premier trio 'Tritones' consisting of Kevin Li on piano, Daniel Loy on violin, and Matthew Kim on cello placed first overall, and will now represent Waikato in the next round, the Northern Regional Finals, that will be held in Auckland on Saturday, June 26th.  We wish them all the very best.  A second HBHS trio, 'Tre Ragazzi', consisting of Alex Liu on piano, Robert Hoskins on flute and Nathanael Loy on cello, also performed to a very high standard and received a Highly Commended award from the adjudicators.  Well done to all students involved in this event, and a special thank you to our chamber music and orchestral string specialist, Sharon Stephens, for all of her hard work and dedication in preparing our students for these performances.
