📚 Library 2023

Ryan Bosch —

Senior Student Librarian, Ryan Bosch, reports on the year that was in the Library.

The Baigent Library has been an outstanding hub for the student community and learning throughout 2023. The Library prides itself on offering a diverse range of resources and activities, from Library Week to the ever-expanding selection of fiction and non-fiction books, magazines and graphic novels. Library Week remained a highlight in 2023, building on the success of the previous years. The week-long event featured a variety of activities, like the Bookmark Competition and Quiz, which had a great turnout. These events encouraged greater participation in the Library, and with the resources it provides. The competition and engagement between students created a lively atmosphere, with a number of boys returning for each event. Library Week was also an excellent opportunity for a number of our younger Student Librarians to take on greater responsibility in the Library, running some events themselves. This will ensure that future Library Weeks will continue to be engaging for the school community. A visit from award-winning Kiwi author David Riley was a highlight of the year. David aims to get reluctant readers reading through his exciting books centred around Kiwi and Pasifika heroes, sporting stars and cultural icons. He has published numerous books, some of which, like “Jammin’ with Steven Adams” and “Samoan Heroes” are award-winning. His inspiring talk to the boys was greatly appreciated. The HBHS Library continues to be a vital resource for the school community. The Library’s success in 2023 is a testament to the dedication and hard work of Mr Vincent, Mr Hassall, Mrs Skerman, Ms Coursey, and Mrs Bright.
