🌎 Level 3 Geography Field Trip 2022

Andy Thomson —

Our final field trip of the 2022 school year took place in May as our Year 13 NCEA and Year 11 IGCSE students made their way to Waihi Beach. Accompanying the students were Mrs Shephard, Mr Thomson, Miss Simmonds and Mr Dodunski.

This trip is vital for our Year 13 students for their 3.5 Research Internal and we decided it would be useful for our Cambridge class to accompany them to expand their knowledge of the data collection process.

It was a particularly early, and cold, start for our students due to the requirements of being at the beach for an appropriate amount of time during low tide. However, the day turned out to be incredibly successful as the students collected data in three different locations along the beach. At each location, data was collected for the beach profile, type of sediment and longshore drift.

It is on this field trip that Mrs Shephard is in her element as she leads the students through an exceptionally insightful field trip that expands the students' knowledge of a natural environment in which we spend a significant amount of time. The images below highlight this.
