The HBHS Senior Premier Basketball team step up to serve our community.

There’s no doubt that these young men love to play basketball, but with any sporting code, there is always a financial cost. To help with this, the HBHS Senior Premier Basketball team conducted a ‘sponsor a service project’ fundraiser at The Serve Hamilton (31/07/23, 07/08/23 and 14/08/23). The Serve is a “volunteer led organisation that is committed to serving evening meals 365 days a year, to those in the community who are in need, underprivileged, on low income or going through genuine hardship.”

The basketballers took to social media seeking sponsorship where whānau and friends selected a number (1-50) and sponsored that value. In return each young man gave a $75 koha from their funds raised to put towards the meal for the night. Pizza, hot chips, green salad, chocolate cupcakes and a drink was the menu for the night.

These young men represented HBHS and their whānau with honour and served the community with utmost respect. Te Tatau Strother (Captain) stated “one thing I took from this experience was to be more grateful for what I have and to be kind to others.” We wish the team and coaches all the best for their upcoming tournaments.
