⛳ HBHS wins Denzel Ieremia Golf Trophy for the first time 🏆
The HBHS Golf team has finally won the Denzel Ieremia Trophy for the first time since its inception in 2015. Denzel attended HBHS and was coached at St Peter's School Cambridge, so his parents donated a trophy in 2015 for the two schools to compete for leading into the National Secondary Schools Golf Tournament. Somehow we avoided COVID-related disruptions and contested the trophy every year since 2015, but had never won it. Our two stars from the Intercollegiate Championship, where our school qualified as top in the district to attend the Nationals, backed up their performances again, with Isaac Steel (69) and Cole Tosland (70) allowing us to take a 1-shot victory over a very strong St Peter's side. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Isaac Steel (Year 11), Ricci Putohe (Year 12) and Cole Tosland (Year 13, Captain of Golf) all the best at the Pleasant Point Golf Course in Timaru in the Secondary Schools National Final, played over 36 holes. They play as a team of three with the best two scores out of the three golfers counting over the two rounds.
