Caleb Shephard, Lynnette Ross & Wendy Moffitt —

The theme for our rowers this year was to let their rowing do the talking, and during the 2024 NZSS Maadi Regatta, they made quite a statement.

As the team took to the waters of Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel, they showed grit and determination in what was an extremely tough week of racing. Our Under 15s came away with gold medals in hotly contested races in both the Octuple and the Eight, along with bronze in the Under 15 Four. Our Under 16 and Under 17 crews made it through to A finals, but couldn't quite make it into the medals in what are always extremely competitive age groups. The Under 18 Novice group placed 4th in the Eight just 0.2 seconds away from bronze and managed to pick up a hard fought silver medal in the Four. Our Senior Under 18s produced a display of dominant rowing, winning gold in the pair, before bringing home the Springbok Shield in the Four and the coveted Maadi Cup in the Eight. Overall, the HBHS squad had an outstanding regatta to cap off their season combining to win the Star Trophy for the top school overall. Zach Brownlee, Dylan McConnell, William Milne, and Ethan Steyn have also been named as trialists for the New Zealand Under 19 team.
