🏐 Inter Provincial Volleyball Championships 🥈

Brieana Crosbie —

King’s Birthday weekend saw five HBHS Volleyball students head down to Wellington to represent Waikato at the Inter Provincial Championships.

Kane Faulkner, Quinn Faulkner and David Nguyen were all in the Waikato Under 17 men’s team. This team played strongly through pool play beating WECA and Hawkes Bay 3-0. In the quarter final, they came up against North Harbour who were reigning champions from the previous year Under 15 competition. A dominant performance saw Waikato take the win 3-0. Semi-final time and Tasman was the opposition. Another strong performance saw Waikato win 3-0, to play BOP A in the final. A strong start saw the boys take the first two sets, but unfortunately the BOP were too strong and our boys took the loss 2-3.

In the Under 19 team, current students Shae Asiata and Moses Mapa along with Old Boys Tamwi Metai and Hikawera Puriri featured. Pool play saw the boys take two from three games - 3-0 win vs North Harbour B, 2-1 win vs Taranaki and a 0-3 loss vs BOP A. This put the boys in second place for pool qualification and they faced North Harbour A. A tough game saw the boys take a 0-3 loss then play WECA A in the 5th-8th semi. A five set battle wasn’t quite enough and the boys took another loss, 2-3. The 7th / 8th playoff was against Wellington B and with a strong finish they took a 3-1 win, to finish in 7th place.

Old Boy, Kawana Snow, played in the Senior Men’s team that took a notable 4th place in the Senior Men’s competition.
